Methods

Summary

I will make use of laboratory experiments in order to assess cheating behaviour in the lab. Anonymity and no deception will be guaranteed. There will be different treatments differing on the incentives for cheating.

Participants will play different games for 20 periods. There will be two "mind games" that will be used to assess cheating and other fillers not related to lying. The presence of these fillers minimizes an experimenter demand effect for cheating. The first mind game represents one of my contributions to the literature. On the other hand, the second mind game is similar to the one in Kajackaite and Gneezy (2017) and will allow me to assess the robustness of the first mind game.

After the completion of the laboratory experiment and without informing the subjects, they will be placed in a field experiment as in Potters and Stoop (2016).

Challenges

The main threat to this research are reputational concerns. Hence, full anonymity must be guaranteed. Random allocation and the use of a personal password (chosen by the participant) which constitutes subject's id, will ensure anonymity between participants and the experimenter.

Pre Analysis Plan

All data analysis will be developed using STATA software and using non-parametric analysis.
