Donation Period Extended for 30 days

Thank you everyone for your donations to this project.

$4,000 has been raised, but $6,000 is needed before the project can be funded. If the donated amount never eclipses $10,000, no project will be initiated in accordance with Experiment.com guidelines.

We are extending the donation site for a 30 day period based on public feedback and growing interest in this effort.

Update

==========================================

We have received all of the tap water analysis data for our January 17, 2014 Charleston, West Virginia visit. In the coming days, results of our testing will be posted on our team website: http://www.southce.org/ajwhelton. Please visit our website for the results.

You may also have heard that since our Experiment.com site was developed, the State of West Virginia funded a large project called WV TAP. That project includes tap water analysis of 10 homes affected by the contamination incident in West Virginia for the purpose of designing a much larger in-home tap water analysis study. The 10 home study was unable to include every homeowner who wanted their tap water analyzed. The larger in-home tap water analysis study in design will not include every homeowner. There will be many people who simply do not have the opportunity to have their water tested.

Conditions in the Affected Area

=========================================

Despite the State funding the 10 homes project, there still remains a need by many residents to understand chemical tap water levels. As of today, homeowners have contacted me reporting chemical exposure symptoms (rashes, headaches, nausea, etc.) as well as licorice and musty odors in their tap water. Many residents still refuse to drinking and bathe in the water. Pediatrician reported that he's seen some children with rashes on their back that occurred while taking showers. There remains a pressing need to understand the chemical composition of the tap water in the affected region. By donating to this project, you can help us help those affected.

Thank You in Advance

=========================================

Funds obtained through this donation site will enable the University graduate students and I to return to West Virginia to conduct followup water sampling at homes.

Thank you in advance for considering a donation.

If the donation amount eclipses $10,000, the project will be funded. If the donation amount never eclipses $10,000, no project will be initiated in accordance with Experiment.com guidelines.

Sincerely,

Andy

About This Project

A recent chemical spill into the Elk River, West Virginia contaminated the drinking water for 300,000 people and was declared a Federal disaster.

Even today, those residents have no drinking water safety data for inside their homes. We seek at least $10,000 to return to West Virginia and to cover costs.

Do not feel obligated to participate, but know any contribution is a step towards helping us help those affected. Donations are tax deductible.
