ZIKA, Chikungunya and Dengue

ZIka and Dengue are Flavivirus, infections transmitted by Aedes mosquito vectors.

Chikungunya is an Alphavirus that is also carried by Aedes mosquitos.

Dengue and Zika utilise complicated mechanisms to silently enter and cause morbidity and mortality, "Viral Kung-fu".

Check out the video here :

The Dengue virus as it enters the Cell.

The current situation in Brazil and LATAM is that people maybe infected with one, two or all three viruses simultaneously. It is possible that an additive effect from simultaneous infections might cause increased or more severe complications.

If you get Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya it could lead to more severe health conditions.

Uniquely, the second time you are infected with Dengue, you are more likely to suffer from severe complications, Severe Dengue Shock, which can be fatal.

Currently the capacity to diagnose all three viruses and differentiate these are low due to significant cross reactivity between them, as well as a lack of infrastructure and personnel.

Our assay is designed to enable anyone in a low resource settings to test with ease and reliably for one, two or all three viruses.

Thank you to all the backers - you are amazing!

Gilad.

About This Project

LIKA Laboratório de Imunopatologia Keizo Asami.

Zika (PORTUGUESE) is a rapidly emerging pandemic, a global health emergency. ZIKV has been associated with central nervous system malformations in babies alongside neurological and immune complications in adults. There is a shortage of labs offering ZIKV testing in Brazil and worldwide. We are developing a new diagnostic assay that identifies the presence of ZIKV and other viruses. The goal is an easy, rapid, economical, local & reliable test without the need of a lab or highly trained personnel
