Thank you + stretch goal!

Lab Note #1
Apr 17, 2014
Wow. Thank you all so much for your support! In just one week, we have reached our first goal of 3,180 dollars.  This will allow us to go down to Bocas del Toro, Panama this summer, conduct experiments, and collect samples to work towards understanding white band disease. We’re not done yet though! We are now working to reach our stretch goal of $6,680. This will allow us to sequence the whole genomes of the pathogens we identify in our experiments. We will also sequence diseased corals at multiple points during infection to separate the cause of the disease from the effects of the disease.

We are so grateful to everyone who has shared our project with others via social media and personal communication.  We have had an incredible 1,389 pageviews so far!

Thanks!
Sarah and Felicia

A side note: Our advisor, Steven Vollmer, was recently featured in a Boston Globe article that speaks about the importance of understanding the genetic variation in rare ocean species, like the staghorn coral we study!
