Hi Joshua, yes we intend on making the models and all other data available to the public. There are several databases where we'd be able to deposit the data. Publishing in an open access journal is certainly a possibility, plus the paper will definitely be freely available on my personal webpages.

Good question! The animals will participate in a couple of other exciting projects (currently in planning) on turtle evolution.

Hi Cindy, there are many examples of shelled animals so in that sense body armour has evolved repeatedly. The turtle, however, is unique in the 370-million year history of terrestrial backboned animals. This is because of the complex anatomical modifications that occurred more than 210 million years ago to give rise to the shelled reptiles we know as turtles today!
