Yes, environmental DNA can detect human DNA in the water. Hair, skin, and other remnants left behind containing your genetic markers would be detected. Soil scientists and even forensic science have been using environmental DNA tools for awhile. Now it's being applied to conservational biology, and specifically aquatic ecosystems.
