Thanks Lindsey! I watched two of the videos that came up from your link and they answered many of my questions. I've always hated joining the ends of the lengths but I see now that I can remove the piece from my thumb without causing too much confusion. I plan to try it again tonight when I get home. It's fascinating to me to think of people being so creative as to come up with this technique and make beautiful garments and solve problems at the same time.
Have a wonderful day!

How has Viking knitting evolved up to the 17th century?
I am so happy to see that you are studying Nalbinding! This is good work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you find and learning all I can about this ancient art that led to knitting. Meanwhile, I'm trying to learn how to do it! It's easy to do but hard to do with elegance (fe me anyway). Good Luck and I'll share with my fiber friends!
