Once the visa number has been provided to a consular officer, they will arrange for the applicant to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting is the procedure of obtaining a photograph of an individual, as well as the signature of that person. The fingerprints will then be compared against the records that they have on file to confirm when they match up. If they do match, the applicant will get their visa number.
