More
For almost thirty years, Patrick Schotanus has worked internationally in banking but mostly in investment management. Born in the Netherlands he has also lived in London, New York, and Singapore. Most recently he was the global multi-asset strategist of Aegon Asset Management (UK) and co-managed, supporting the CIO, its flagship Mixed Fund (£8bn). Before that he held senior positions with F. van Lanschot Bank. He started his career at Barclays Bank as a member of its elite European Management Development Program. Currently Patrick is a Visiting Scholar at the University of Edinburgh where he is further developing his Market Mind Hypothesis (MMH) together with other (international) researchers. He is also the founder of the Market Mind Research Platform (MMRP), a unique cooperation between the universities of Edinburgh and Sussex. His interest to combine economics with cognitive science started as a twenty-something intern with the late Willis Harman, professor emeritus at Stanford and a visionary futurist. Patrick’s technical papers have been published in various peer-reviewed journals and he regularly presents his work at conferences and seminars. He also frequently comments on markets and advises a select group of investment professionals. The practical relevance of Patrick’s academic work is reflected in the fact that it has always been funded and supported by his employers. This includes his PhD in complex psychology at the University of Essex (2016). In 2002 he completed a fully sponsored Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) from the University of California at Berkeley, where has was taught by Francis Longstaff, Philip Jorion, Richard Lyons, Terry Odean and Mark Rubinstein. In addition, he has a Master of Business Administration (MBA, 1990) from the University of Groningen. His professional investment qualifications include the RBA (Dutch equivalent of CFA), CEFA and CMT designations. He lives with his family in Edinburgh, UK.
