Stathis G. Arapostathis was born in Athens, Greece, on September 1st, 1984. At the age of 18 he moved to Mytilene, on the island of Lesvos, where he studied Geography at the University of the Aegean. He later pursued both his MSc and PhD at the Department of Geography, Harokopio University in Athens, (November 2015) specializing in Geo-Informatics and, subsequently, in the use of Social Media for natural disasters.
His research interests are mostly and not only linked to Social Networks and Science: Social Media, Natural and humanitarian disasters, crisis management, machine/deep learning, education, tourism geography. He owns the a little map brand through which he works as researcher. Since 2018, he has published a plethora of papers in reputed conferences and journals regarding disaster management, and flood management by utilizing social networks.
Alongside his research background, he has working experience as an employee in private local and international companies, while through a little map he started and maintained for relatively large time periods, various local and international collaborations. Moreover, he has been teaching in secondary education in Greece, since 2023. He also has more or less 14 years of professional experience. He has already created the v1.0 of Deucalion and Pyrrha datasets.
His publications regarding social media and effective disaster management are more than 20 and have been included in various very well-known indexes. Among other, a very relevant one, maybe less known is the Disaster Information Reference Library.
It is his first crowd-funding running project.
