About This Grant

This challenge grant focuses on research in simulated computer graphics and virtual reality.

New innovations in computer graphics range from new techniques for realistic renderings to new tools and frameworks that let in a new generation of artists and students.

Some of the questions we're interested in are:

  • New techniques in lighting, shadows, motion, and environments
  • New techniques in simulating human features and behaviors
  • What sorts of experiences can we build in virtual reality?
  • How closely can we replicate real behaviors and reactions in VR and the real world?
  • How can computer graphics and virtual reality be used in the classroom, surgery room, or training?

The ideal project will present new techniques and convey results and progress at each step of the way through the experiment.

How It Works

This grant is for projects that launch crowdfunding campaigns by January 3, 2017. The project with the most backers after three weeks of campaigning will receive an additional $500 grant. Eligible projects should be submitted by December 16th.
