Methods

Summary

The "Unveiling Desires" project will employ a mixed-methods approach to analyze the dataset of fetishistic desires collected over the past decade. The data, already scrubbed and organized in an SPSS database, will undergo quantitative analysis to identify patterns and trends. Qualitative methods will be used to contextualize and interpret these findings, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the BIPOC fetish landscape. Our team will utilize statistical techniques, thematic coding, and cross-referencing with inferred demographic data to ensure robustness and accuracy. Expertise in sexual health, data analysis, and cultural studies will guide the project to success. For reproducibility, we will document our methodology in detail and provide supplementary materials such as codebooks and analytical frameworks.

Challenges

  1. Happenstance Data Collection: The dataset was collected inadvertently, lacking standardized methodologies. This poses a challenge in validating and interpreting the data for rigorous academic analysis.
  2. Explicit Nature of the Topic: The sensitive and explicit content of the data requires careful handling to ensure ethical considerations and sensitivity.
  3. Indirect Demographic Data: Inferred demographics based on known audience characteristics may introduce larger deviations in reliability.

Overcoming Challenges

To address these challenges, we will:

  • Implement robust data validation techniques and cross-check findings.
  • Adhere to strict ethical guidelines and sensitivity protocols.
  • Use multiple methods to triangulate demographic inferences, ensuring greater accuracy and reliability.

Pre Analysis Plan

  1. Hypothesis Testing: We hypothesize that BIPOC individuals have diverse and unique fetishistic desires that reflect their cultural and socio-political contexts.
  2. Quantitative Analysis:
    • Use descriptive statistics to summarize the data.
    • Employ inferential statistics (e.g., regression analysis) to identify significant patterns and correlations.
  3. Qualitative Analysis:
    • Conduct thematic coding of open-ended responses to identify recurring themes and narratives.
    • Use cross-referencing to enhance the contextual understanding of quantitative findings.
  4. Handling Multiple Outcomes:
    • Develop a comprehensive coding framework to categorize various fetishistic desires.
    • Use sensitivity analysis to manage and interpret multiple outcomes.
  5. Anticipating Variance:
    • Apply variance analysis techniques to account for data discrepancies and ensure reliability.
    • Incorporate robust statistical controls to mitigate the impact of indirect demographic data.

By following this plan, we aim to produce a nuanced and accurate understanding of BIPOC fetishistic desires, contributing valuable insights to the field of sexual health and education.
