Who spreads visual generative disinformation, how does it work, and why is it so persuasive?

Thank you for your interest in knowing more about my project. The project has multiple steps, which are all crucial to understanding the whole cycle of visual generative disinformation, from its creation to its impact and the potential to curb its spread. First, I will investigate whether visual generative disinformation is more effective in deception (in comparison to human-made disinformation) in terms of engagement and persuasion. This is important because it will tell us whether we have to worry more about it or whether we are dealing with disinformation in all cases, and it does not matter whether it’s AI-generated or not. This will help policymakers and stakeholders know the actual capabilities of such content. Some strategies might then emerge in response to these findings; for instance, mandatory labeling for AI-generated content. Then, I aim to explore potential strategies to educate the public about recognizing such content. Is it possible with some literacy training to enhance public recognition abilities or—at least—their skepticism toward the visual? If so, what type of training is effective? Once we know that, these training strategies can be mandated for school and university students.
