Beneficial effect of iPSC-extracellular vesicles (iPSC-EV)
Extracellular vesicles derived from stem cell (iPSC) have a beneficial effect on liver malignant cells (hepatic stellate cell, HSC) responsible for the scarring of the liver (process called fibrosis). Advanced liver fibrosis results in liver cirrhosis, liver failure and often requires liver transplantation. The use of personalized iPSC-EVs isolated from a patient's skin biopsy and then used as therapeutic tool may revolutionize anti-fibrotic treatments and reverse liver injury. We observed that iPSC-EV get uptaken by malignant and activated HSC and induce a switch to IN-activated HSC (benign). We use TGF-b as strong HSC activating factor.
