Schedule and Plans

Thanks to all of you wonderful backers we were able to purchase 9 more dataloggers. After some delay in getting the specifications and order data in correct form, the little devices arrived via DHL from England last month. We now have a full set of 10 loggers!

Since we have also had some delays in getting research permits in place for an August trip and issues with getting schedules matched up with our Colombian counterparts, we have devised a new schedule. Dr. Carr and I will be travelling to Colombia in December of this year to deploy our tags. This will be after our fall semester classes and will allow more preparation time.

I am anxious to get started and excited to have more updates for you as we move forward.

Thank you for keeping us up to date with the project. Patience is a good virtue when doing research, delays are very common when it involves overseas suppliers and coordinating large teams and travel. I hope the plan goes according to schedule and you and Dr Carr have a productive trip to Colombia in December. By the way, the loggers look cool!

About This Project

The Chocoan River Turtle, a freshwater species, has limited populations along the Pacific coast of Colombia and Ecuador and is listed as near threatened and little is known about it. Despite being previously thought of as a freshwater, herbivorous species, it has recently been seen on land feeding on the carrion of a mammal. Biologging tags will be used as a hands-off technique to give insight into the daily activities and nesting habits of this interesting turtle on Isla Palma, Colombia.

Blast off!
