IRB APPROVAL!

After much celebration and elation from getting the project fully funded (thanks again to all that donated and shared the project through their social networks), my IRB approval also came through today! With this approval, I can officially begin the interviews and field observations with law enforcement that will provide the data I need. Planning my first ride-along for this coming weekend.  Thanks again to everyone who helped make this a reality. Couldn't do it without you.  Michael

About This Project

To address the issue of urban gun violence, police have adopted a new strategy, called "community-oriented policing". However, we know little about how officers experience the day-to-day of community-policing, or how they deal with the trauma of seeing the fallout of urban violence. Using interviews and field work, I hope to better understand the lived experience of those tasked with reducing violence and reconnecting with the community.
Blast off!
