To the tune of Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer - "Whoaaa, we're halfway there, whoa (see pic)"

Fruit bat eating pear!

I just wanted to post a quick lab note to say thank you.

It's inspiring to see so many people interested in and willing to engage with conservation research and, whatever the outcome of this campaign, please know that your support has been thoroughly appreciated.

You've already done so much by pledging to support this project but, if you feel you'd like to help more, the best thing you could do is to share the link (www.experiment.com/batonthebrink) with your social media and friends and family to encourage them to pledge too.

The middle of any crowdfund campaign is meant to be the hardest, as interest and enthusiasm slows, so we're anticipating a drop in pledges but hopefully we can keep them up with your assistance.

Thank you again for all that you've done - I'll be sure to post another lab note soon with an update and some more info.

About This Project

Livingstone's fruit bats (Pteropus livingstonii) are one of the rarest bats in the world, with only 1260 left in the wild. A captive breeding program of 71 individuals exists as a safeguard against extinction.

Funding would enable the vital investigation of relatedness in captive bats, allowing for the prevention of inbreeding, the assessment of hereditary diseases, the comparison of wild and captive genetics and ensure the continued success of the captive breeding program.

Blast off!
