I was trained as a marine and fisheries biologist, and holds degrees from Moscow State University, Russia (B.Sc. Biology and M.Sc. Biophysics). After a long break working in environmental and marine sciences on several institutions, I was concern about the "destructive" course of coral reefs and entered to a masters program in Marine Science at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) were I studied the growth patterns (Sclerochronology) of scleractinian corals from the Caribbean and how climate change can affect their natural condition. But that was just a partial answer to my questions about reefs. Those were "trees" and I wan to know the whole " marine forest" and better understand with subject I was dealing at next level, so I am presently in the doctoral program studying how Caribbean reefs accrete and develop in geological time. Why? Because I want to see for myself how reefs grow and not just accept what others tell me. I am deeply impress by these complex ecosystems and I believe, we need to try hard to better comprehend these marvelous ecosystems
