As Professor in Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) in Canada, Alexandru Mateescu’s core expertise lies in biomaterials, drug delivery, biochemical pharmacology and new devices for biomedical applications. With over 130 articles and 30 patents, including the successful Contramid® technology for controlled drug release, Alexandru has gained worldwide recognition. Particular interests include cardioprotection, antioxidant scavenging and neuromodulation, including novel uses of metallo-proteins such as copper aminooxidase and ceruloplasmin. He is a co-founder of the Global MS Research Foundation.
