Bioengineering involves knowledge of all the physical sciences. It is in the pursuit of this knowledge that I came to UCSC, where I currently reside as a fourth year under this major. Following the completion of my degree, I’ll apply for the Medical Scientist Training Program which offers both an MD and PhD. In iGEM, I’ve researched gene integration; metabolic flux; system modeling; and lab methods and protocols. My current role involves working with a team to implement a genetic circuit in our model yeast - a riboswitch. This circuit would respond to the presence of progesterone by increasing cell fluorescence.
