Novel insight into the causes and treatments of diabetic foot infections

Dear Oludipe, thank you a lot for your support! We hope to generate data that will improve the health and wellbeing of million of people living with diabetes. These infections are one of the most common complication and are a major cause of lower limb amputations globally. The fund will also supprot a PhD student performing their research in this context and will be published in their thesis, as well as in a research journal at study completion. Hopefully this will inform healthcare professionals and influence the approach they will have to patient treatment in the future. If you want to know more about the project developments, you can follow me on twitter as well @VinTorraca!

Dear Oyins digital, thanks a lot for your interest in this project! Doing great, excited to collect the first funds for this project and to see interest! Yes this campain is to help people living with diabetes. Diabetic foot infections are a common complication and can lead to amputations, with devastating lifelong impact on the patient's wellebeing. By conducting the research proposed here, I aim to help prevent infection occurrence, as well as recognise and treat this early, with a more effective/targeted approach, to reduce also risk of treatment failure. I previously worked on other enterobacteria, such as Shigella, Salmonella, and other E. coli infecting different locations. I also have worked on mycobacteria. See my bibliography here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=o-paYUUAAAAJ&hl I was struck however by the fact that diabetic foot infections remain so poorly characterised and this is why I started this new project. On this, I also obtained funds to recruit a PhD student (starting in September), see link here: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/phylogenetic-and-phenotypic-characterisation-of-e-coli-from-diabetic-foot-ulcers/?p158153 Finally I am in the process of preparing a larger research application for Diabetes UK funds. https://www.diabetes.org.uk/ The work conducted with the fund raised here will help me generate data to catalyse more research in this direction. It will also help my new student get started! If you are interested in this research, follow me on Twitter for more updates! @VinTorraca Thank you, Vincenzo
