Hi I'm Fiona and I'm a rising Junior at the University of Michigan, studying Cellular Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering. I'm always intrigued by the blend of biological science and engineering, as well as how biotechnology have changed our lives. Besides being part of the team, I am also doing regenerative medicine research on islet transplantation. When I'm outside of lab, I enjoy playing tennis and going to concerts.
Hello Lenore! Thanks for being interested in our project and these are great questions!
1. Our goal is to develop a readily-accessible, paper-based detection kit so that consumers can buy it grocery stores/food markets.
2. That is such an interesting idea that we have never thought of before. Human breast milk might have different components compared to cow milk, and the spoilage bacteria can also be different. However, it is possible to potentially apply our detection method to human breast milk -- we just need to tweak our system so that it can detect different quorum sensing molecules.
