Dr. Jessica Elbert is a veterinary anatomic pathologist and graduate student working to better understand the pathobiology of the Egyptian rousette bat, a reservoir host for Marburg virus. By combining research interests spanning veterinary pathology, immunology, and virology, Dr. Elbert works to elucidate how Egyptian rousette bats are such effective reservoirs for zoonotic viral pathogens and to identify drivers of high-consequence virus transmission from natural animal reservoirs to people.
Dr. Elbert graduated cum laude from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She completed an anatomic pathology residency at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021, achieving Diplomat status with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists that same year.
