My name is Justice Toshiba Walker and I am a learning scientist, which means I examine learning processes and how they are shaped by complex environmental, social and cultural influences. I do this mostly in relation to middle and high school-aged youth—and principally those who are traditionally marginalized, or who face persistent inequality.
I am especially fascinated by learning that involves the use of burgeoning bio and computing technologies to enact change—through innovation, professional development, and/or civic engagement—and in communities at varying scales.
I earned a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Graduate School of Education, and M.S. in Engineering from the UPenn School of Engineering and Applied Science, and a B.S. in Molecular Biology and English Literature from the University of Miami (FL).
