Our laboratory investigates nutrition and exercise based interventions to maximize health and quality of life during aging. Our passions include Vitamin D, natural bioactive molecules like resveratrol, nicotinamide riboside, and tomato extracts, as well as high intensity interval training. We believe in a bench - to - bedside approach whereby we use experiments conducted in cells and animal models to inform the design of our human clinical studies.
As for myself, I've long had a passion for science that has touched on a wide range of disciplines. I graduated with a bachelor degree in general biology with emphasis in marine biology, spent four years as a database programmer, and then attained a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology. The focus of this work was a biophysical examination of the behavior of transcription factors as they bind to DNA, but I have since shifted to trying to understand how nutrition and exercise affects biology using mouse models. Most recently we are now initiating a human clinical study of exercise in older individuals.
