non realsesable birds

it is possible that a bird captured during this study may not be fit for release into the wild. In these cases, the following protocol will be followed:

if the bird is injured, wether it is a previous injury or one sustained during trapping:

antibiotic will be applied if needed, bird will be placed in pet carrier with food and water until the end of the day's field session if the injuries is mild.  if severe will be taken in pet carrier directly to a wildlife rehabilitation facility.

if the bird is sick:

bird will be isolated in pet carrier or plastic tote with food and water. if mild illness, bird will be kept in isolated container until end of day's field session then brought to a wildlife rehabilitation facility. if severe it will be brought directly to wildlife rehabilitation facility. all equipment used around this bird will be thoroughly cleaned.

if bird is of domestic origin:

if bird is judged to be of domestic origin (has domestic phenotypes or "pet" band) bird will be placed in pet carrier with food and water until the end of the day's field session. bird will then be brought to an animal shelter. ( don't tell my parents but I might try to adopt it)
