July 31st: Probe Kits, Display, and Fixing Electrodes

We completed two Probe kits today that will be donated to the Regional office in West Tennessee for Water Quality Testing. The other probe will be donated to the Health Department in Weakley County for residents to use. A picture of the two probe kits are below.

The research team also completed a display that will be in a display case in the hall of Greenfield High School representing the probes that we built. The case is present in the picture below.

The display box that houses the probe kit that the research team build. This is on display in the high school hallway.

The research team worked on fixing two of the reference electrodes that were not working when we calibrated the probes. Below is a picture of the process of cutting the glass tube and replacing the ceramic bead in the tube.

Logan Rash (left) and Andrew Campbell (right) work on the two reference electrodes that were inoperable when the team was calibrating the probes. The electrodes are now working properly.

I will post a picture of the probe being used with the software interface as well as a link to a spreadsheet where we have recorded values using the probes. The spreadsheet also calculates the concentration for a metal ion based on x and y values inserted into the sheet from the probes user interface. Give me until the end of week to complete this

About This Project

In Weakley County folklore, cancer and disease rates within certain communities are said to be high due to poor water quality. This project will test the quality of well, city, and community water sources within Weakley County and see if the water quality has a significant correlation with rates of diseases. In the process of the research the research team will design a probe to help residents test their water quality.

Blast off!
