We're Halfway There!

We have officially surpassed our halfway mark! (Funded at 62%, to be exact). Thanks to all who have donated to this important project. You'll be happy to know that we were able to extend the funding date another two weeks to help us meet our goal! Please tell your friends - we are almost there!

It has been really interesting and informative for us to speak with people in El Varillal and Last Mercedes over the past week and a half, as well as speak to various Honduran researchers, health professionals, and organizations who have implemented ecological sanitation interventions in Honduras in the past. There are a lot of lessons we will be taking back with us to better inform the project Water Missions plans to implement here.

Today is the last day of our baseline survey in the field. Later today we will be holding meetings with the project beneficiaries in each community to inform them of what latrine they have been randomly assigned for the study. We plan to return throughout the next year or so to evaluate the project. After the study is completed, if beneficiaries are unhappy with their assignment, they will be able to switch to their preferred option. I look forward to sharing our preliminary results in the coming days. Vaya pues, y muchas gracias!

About This Project

Water Missions International

The project includes construction of 80 household latrines in two Honduran communities. In the pilot we are conducting baseline surveys with families on sanitation and hygiene practices, authoritative sources of knowledge, and what factors they consider important in their toilet. This will help development practitioners to understand the risks and success indicators for ecological models of sanitation.

Blast off!
