66%! The final stretch. And a new backer benefit

We've had an amazing set of generous donations that have pushed the Firefly Genome Project closer and closer to our $10K goal. We've just reached 66%, meaning we are 2/3rds of the way there!

With 9 days left in the campaign, we're now in the final countdown for the campaign. Can we make it the final 1/3rd to 100% and secure the funds necessary for the genome? Or will Team Firefly go home with only their memories? Only you can decide!

We hope you'll continue to share the project with friends and family who you think might find the project interesting. From our perspective, we've loved having the experience to share our love our fireflies with you, and we hope you've felt the same way.

As we continue to push for the final 3rd, we're excited to announce a brand new benefit for our backers.

Firefly Communicator handheld LED light

Team Firefly has teamed up with Joey Stein, creator of the Firefly Communicator (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/speakfirefly/...), to provide the not-yet-released Firefly Communicator as a gift to our backers. The Firefly Communicator is a handheld LED light that allows you to mimic flash patterns and literally speak firefly! There's also an associated mobile app, that will let you learn the flash patterns of particular firefly species. But don't take my word for it, check out Joey's excellent video at the link above. All backers at or over $110 will receive a Firefly Communicator of their very own, along with all the other goodies we've previously announced. Lets get out there and talk to some fireflies this summer!

About This Project

Fireflies! These silent fireworks on warm summer nights fill us with wonder. But so much about these fascinating critters remains shrouded in mystery. Our team of biologists has joined forces to sequence the genome of the Big Dipper Firefly, Photinus pyralis. This project has the potential to foster important advances in bioscience and medicine, will illuminate how a complex trait like light production evolves, and will help guide future efforts to conserve disappearing firefly populations.
