Ongoing research in nutrient recovery from urine funded by the EPA
I wanted to share a little bit about other research related to the environment, nutrient management, and human urine. This is a real field of research (in case you were wondering, ha!) funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other organizations. Keep reading to find out a bit more! The EPA hosted a webinar about nutrient management and recovery from human urine on December 14, 2016. It highlighted research related to: 1) Nutrient recovery from waterless urinals in bulidings.
2) The comparative environmental sustainability of different ways of managing wastewater and stormwater, including nutrient recovery.
3) A review of the occurrence of pharmaceuticals and microorganisms in urine as it is transformed into fertilizer products.
4) Results from work on applying urine-derived fertilizer products to grow crops on a research farm in Vermont.
I've posted the EPA's flier for the webinar, and wrote them to see if a recording of this webinar is available. I wasn't able to see it myself, and if I find it, I'll post it!
