Latest update

I haven't posted an update for several months so I wanted to let you know that we are still working on this project and are trying several different methods to obtain Brca1 mutant pups. First, the NCI mouse repository is trying to recover live mice from their frozen stocks, and second Dr. Cowley is attempting an ovarian transplant from the single Brca1 mutant female that we obtained previously as a strategy to try to get pups.

We continue to be excited for the potential of this project and hope to be able to make progress soon with obtaining the Brca1 mutant mice.

Really great idea. This could be in Nature if it works and the results are solid. :)

About This Project

Women with the BRCA gene mutation have an 80% risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer. Most research focuses on how to treat cancer once it has developed. This research aims to provide a non-invasive way to prevent transmission of this gene mutation by selectively targeting the sperm that carry it.
