Thank You to Marianne!

Today we're thanking one of our organization's first supporters, donors, and members! Marianne has been with us since day one, and that goes for our crowdfunding campaign as well. She sponsored a small jacket, and this one comes to us from our "LZ Blue" quarry - a 150 million year old fossil site from the Morrison Formation.

This quarry has been very different from our other ones, but no less fascinating. Rather than being dominated by one species, like our other sites, or containing articulated skeletons like some of the others, the bones here have been spread out a bit, and represent several different taxa: Camarasaurus, Apatosaurus, and a crocodile.

This bone, though, is from none of those dinosaurs. It's a vertebra from an Allosaurus, which is what most of the bones in this quarry are from. Lots of great Allosaur material from this site this season! As you can see, this jacket has already made its way back to the Academy's prep lab and the jacket will be opened soon.

Stay tuned! - maybe the stranger holding the bone below will provide us with some more pictures to track the progress!? Hint, hint??

Thank you, Marianne, for your continued support!

About This Project

Work alongside paleontologists as we collect, excavate and document the fossilized remains of the ancient ecosystems of Montana and Wyoming's Bighorn Basin. This year we're focusing on Jurassic (145 million yr old) sites, excavating dozens of juvenile Diplodocus bones at one, and Allosaurus, Apatosaurus, and crocodiles in another. Join us for a week this summer on the excavation!

Can't join us? Support us by sponsoring a fossil jacket or donating to help us purchase supplies! See below!

Blast off!
