Thank you, Geoff!
Once again, we're thanking supporters of our spring crowdfunding campaign. Geoff was one of many folks who sponsored items in support of our 2018 Field Expedition. Most folks sponsored fossil field jackets, but Geoff sponsored the rental of a trailer to help us get all of the fossils back home to Philadelphia's Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.
Except things didn't go as planned. A pick up truck pulling a rented 5'x9' trailer was enough in all of the past years to get all of the fossil loot home. But not this year. Not even close. In addition to the normal and expected load of dozens of small and medium sized jackets, we also had 2 huge jackets - one of them weighing 2,400 lbs, and the other at LEAST 1,000 lbs. There was simply no way everything was going to fit in the old jacket, and the rental company doesn't allow bigger trailers to be rented for 1-way trips. After spending weeks working through all of the available options, we finally settled on the only one that made sense - we had to buy a trailer.

This trailer looks huge, but the load of well over 4,000 lbs of fossil jackets, not to mention some tools and supplies, took up every inch of that 16' trailer and the back of the truck. And, that's not even all of it. We're expecting another truck load of small jackets and boxes of bags of bones in the next couple of days!

While purchasing a trailer wasn't in the original plans, it was inevitable in the next few years. Without the generosity of our long-time supporter, Geoff, we couldn't have made this important investment in the future of our program. Thank you, Geoff!
