Funding target reached - thank you!

Our minimum funding target of $3000 has just been reached so our project will definitely be going ahead! We would like to say a big thank you to everyone that pledged money. Every pledge made a difference but special thanks to Constellation Brands and Zach Berkowitz for pledging 50% of the total by themselves. Monica and I have been thinking about, and seeking funding for, this project for around 18 months now and its satisfying to finally be in a position to collect data.

The project will be run over the course of 2017 but the initial steps can now be put in motion. On 20th December we are convening a group of Napa viticulture experts to develop suitable measures for assessing team performance on two vineyard tasks (pruning & canopy management). These will then be implemented alongside other team measures during data collection.

We will also now begin working on the forms to get ethical clearance - compulsory when collecting any data from humans. This should be a formality but there is a bureaucratic process that can take a period of weeks.

Thanks again for the support and we will continue to post updates & results as they become available.

We just had a question by email asking if it is possible to pledge even though the target has been reached - the answer is yes, the more funding we get the more data we can collect.......we just decided on $3000 as the minimum to do something useful. So if there are other people out there the campaign continues for another 9 days.

About This Project

University of California Cooperative Extension

Californian farms are traditionally male dominated workplaces but they are increasingly relying on female laborers. Changing the diversity of a workforce can impact the functioning of work teams, affecting efficiency and worker satisfaction. I wish to understand how the recent influx of female workers is affecting vineyard teams. This will allow me to make recommendations as to how these women can be successfully integrated, to benefit both vineyard efficiency and worker satisfaction.

Blast off!
