Our First COMPLETE Mitochondrial Genome!

Hello everybody,

Today I wanted to share with out our first completed mitochondrial genome. I have removed most of the identifying markers from it (because we plan on publishing it!) but we wanted you to see it.

This is the schematic diagram of the mtDNA of a parasitic worm from a sea creature!

Thank you again for your generous support- without you this would not have been possible!

Two more genomes are in the annotation pipeline, and I will update you with those when I can!

About This Project

The goal of this research is to identify parasitic infections in marine mammals like seals, whales, and dolphins. We hope to aid in diagnosis and treatment of these infections using DNA sequences. Molecular biological techniques will allow us to monitor these infections.
