Got the double-slit setup calibrated and running!
Hello wonderful supporters!
Yesterday we were supposed to get the double-slit setup calibrated, running, and automated. The first two worked, the second one had to be delayed for some extra machining. More on that next week!
But here's a video of me being excited to take you through the calibrated system, running 1 photon at a time, and yet showing an interference pattern (Young's famous experiment). Also, each setup has to have its own signal:noise ratio discovered through trial and error, and I found the optimal S:N ratio for this system -- about 163:1 for peak photodetector placement versus noise.
Excited to work with our engineer Loren Carpenter tomorrow on the automation of the necessarily slow voltage ramp-up for the photodetector. More soon!
Thanks again!!
Julia
