Geoff and I have already conducted radio-immune and bacterial killing assays on August 2015 blood samples from our field sites. We have some really exciting preliminary data to share with you.
                
Relationship between average baseline cortisol and in-situ specific conductivity measures during time of blood collection.
 
Correlations were used to assess the relationship between baseline cortisol and specific conductivity for each species. As you can see in the figure above, there are differences in species-specific physiological responses. There was a significantly strong negative correlation between baseline cortisol and specific conductivity for Mottled Sculpin, but an insignificant positive relationship was observed for Mountain Sucker. 
                
Plasma samples from fish in August 2016. Samples will be assayed in January 2017.

Impacts of Oil and Natural Gas on Your Native Fishes

University of Wyoming

Stressors like oil and natural gas (ONG) development have rendered many freshwater ecosystems and their inhabitants impaired. Our project will combine field and laboratory studies to assess physiological responses of fishes to stressors associated with ONG development. Changes to stress hormones and immune responses will be evaluated across a gradient of ONG development stressors. Knowledge gained from this study will provide a better understanding of fish adaptation to human stressors.
