Getting ready to sequence the new SNP's!

My student, Liz, and I are currently cleaning about 100 samples in order to sequence them for genotyping two gene loci: EKN-1 and a second SNP in KIAA0319. This picture shows a previous sequencing result for the EKN-1 gene which verified that we had amplified the correct gene. You can also see the double peak of a heterozygote in this trace. Sequencing these 100 samples will pretty much use up the funds we have available for the study for now. Only with full funding from experiment.com can we expand our data set beyond these pilot individuals and give us the data needed to draw strong conclusions!

About This Project

Dyslexia is a disorder that makes reading difficult despite intelligence. This learning disability is becoming well-studied and characterized in children; however, less work is being done in adults. We seek to determine if having certain dysfunctional gene variations associated with dyslexia continue to have an effect on educational success and may influence a person's choice of major in college.
