Kicking-off regular meetings

Danny, Corinne, and Tim (from top left moving clockwise) on today's call

Our team is based in 3 distinct locations: Long Island City, NY (Danny); Oakland, CA (Tim); and Honolulu, HI (Corinne). The idea for place-based microbial palettes comes from wanting to support work that anchors the BioArtBot more deeply in the diverse communities where we live.

Thanks to all our supporters for getting us funded! We have been meeting sporadically since 2023 talking about potential projects we could collaborate on using the BioArtBot and this funding helps us allocate our time to this project in addition to purchasing the necessary supplies.

Today we committed to more regular meetings to facilitate our ability to coordinate and collaborate on this project. We're all excited to evolve our ways of working together and deliver an exciting upgrade to the BioArtBot. Looking forward to sharing our progress in the next lab note!

About This Project

BioArtBot is an open-source initiative that enables users to create playful pixel designs using colored bacteria on agar plates. We aim to inspire broader community engagement by incorporating locally-sourced pigmented bacteria into BioArtBot’s color palette. This will involve developing a new workflow, accessible curriculum resources, and piloting an open workshop format that utilizes these local palettes, making BioArtBot more adaptable, relevant, and empowering to different communities.

Blast off!
