December update: First deadline Jan 15
Dear citizen scientists,
We have an important update for our GMO Corn Experiment citizen scientists. The first data collection period is ending soon - January 15.
Experiment Progress
Thank you so much to those of you who have completed your experiment! We've been excited to see your results. We are getting ready to start the first wave of data analysis.
Out of 761 kits shipped, so far 86 experiments are completed on the GMOexperiment.com website. Another 128 people started their experiment on the website but haven’t yet closed it out. If you started your experiment but haven’t finished, please go to the website and finish.
Given that winter has arrived in most of the US, we ask that each citizen scientist who hasn’t yet started their experiment make a decision:
- If squirrels and other animals in your area are still active and the weather in your area is dry - please complete your experiments no later than January 15th. You can test animal activity with some loose kernels from your kit or plain cereal such as Cheerios. If it disappears in one 24 hour period then you can start your experiment. Be sure to use the protocol when you conduct your experiment.
- If squirrels and other animals in your area are slowing down for the winter - wait until spring to conduct your experiments. You can store your kit in a cool, dry place, such as in your pantry. Don’t store it in a place where there might be rodents, such as a basement or garage. Experiments conducted after January 15 will be included in our second wave of data analysis.
Thank you all for your participation in this experiment. Remember to read the directions on www.gmoexperiment.com before you start the experiment. Don’t hesitate to contact us at support@gmoexperiment.com if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Karl Haro von Mogel, Science & Media Director
