Meet the Assistant Researchers

I want to introduce you to the amazing assistant researchers, without them I would not be doing this project.

Kalli Unthank

Rachel Razo just graduated from Trine University in Angola, Indiana with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. When this trip is over she will be working in Maine at the Mount Desert Oceanarium for the remainder of the summer. Her passion is marine science and she may continue her education for a master's degree. She visited San Salvador last summer with Jacksonville University and worked on a research project examining the diet of doctor fish. While Rachel was in school she volunteered her free time with Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society, Pine Mountain Settlement School, and Riley's Children's Hospital.

Alison DeVivero

Jacob Marsee is in this third year at Trine University in Angola, Indiana studying Design Engineering. Jacob is invested in the community of Angola by volunteering his free time to the Humane Society, a privately-funded community program, and Ronald McDonald House. He has volunteered his time to help with this project. After weeks of diving its nice to have someone help carrying equipment and scuba tanks.

About This Project

San Salvador is a remote Bahamian island with limited local anthropogenic impacts to coral reef ecosystems, resulting in near pristine reef communities. However, due to the growing tourist facilities on San Salvador, the future of these reef communities may have a different outlook. Our goals are to discover how these reef communities have changed in the past 17 years, identify the primary influencing factors to these communities, and increase our knowledge of these essential ecosystems.
