Those fuzzy sticks are cool and weird! Is the suppression of low branches on redwoods just due to light? That is, would you get branches all up and down like this on a redwood tree exposed to light for the first time (say from logging neighboring trees)? What about on a tree denuded of branches from some cause other than fire? Or is this a specific fire response?
