The inspiration behind this project was the spirit of collaboration at Canisius College and the connections made by our excellent student, Sydney Chertoff. Because of her enthusiasm for research and interest across multiple fields, Sydney was participating in projects across different research teams (Team Ape and the Institute for Autism Research) and she learned about eye-tracking measurement while working on one of my projects with children with high-functioning autism. She suggested: can we do this with the gorillas and see how they look at things? Unfortunately, we don't have the right kind of equipment needed to do this measurement with the gorillas. And thus, this project! Thank you for your question and support!
