Hi Willem - These are great videos, very exciting how the octopus uses its arms to see, smell, think and move. I am wondering whether it is possible to place a dimensional marker at the corner of the aquarium to assess the space and time complexities ( I am assuming that the videos reflect real time). Best

Willem - Artistically the patterns are beautiful.. But they can also be very useful if we know something more about them. 1. Is there a food source, light or some external stimuli that would affect the movement of the individuals? 2. Are all the octopi in the same tank (if so, they will certainly interact with other)? I am sure you are thinking about this: since the trajctories are quantified, cause-and-effect pattern could be established to correlate with search mechanism (a couple of students in the lab are working on diffusion trajectories of peptides on solid surfaces and devloping a markov chain model). Cheers, Mehmet

Dear Willem This is a very exciting project.. Besides the immediate goal you have, I hope your research will go far out to provide invaluable data on how distributed neural networks work, such as the one with the octopi, as it would lead to new biology-inspired AI in the future. Mehmet
