On my wish list is to put together a presentation, "Ice Age Arizona: Plants, Animals, and People" Jim, you have 3 different muskox in Black Hills! Here in AZ we only have Shrub Ox, correct? (S. AZ and Grand Canyon)

Hi Richard, Yes you are correct. Arizona in the Rancholabrean seems to have only the Shrubox, Euceratherium. The region is just too far south to get much else. The Colorado Plateau has a different story, Euceratherium and Bootherium. Looks like somewhere around the AZ-UT border may have been just enough environmental/climatic differences to allow the more boreal adapted Bootherium to persist. Let me know if you have more questions: jmead@mammothsite.org. Cheers. JIM

Jim J. thanks a lot for your support on our project....and thanks for supporting The Mammoth Site as you do! It really is becoming an active research area with multiple cave projects going. Each one critical to a particular question we have about the Ice Age. Let me know if you are ever out here again so I can show you are new Microfaunal Lab. Have a good week. JIM
