A Huge Thank You! - The Sky's the Limit!
First of all, a huge THANK YOU! to everyone who helped to make our campaign a big success. I'm happy to report that at the 1/2 way point of our 35-day campaign, we met our goal - we're fully funded! I'll save my big 'thank you' speech until the very end of the campaign, but I do hope everyone understands how truly grateful we are.
Now - just because we've met our goal doesn't mean we have to stop there! Our original campaign goal of $5,985 is the bare minimum needed to accomplish the goals of our expedition - to excavate three dinosaur skeletons. However, every "extra" dime we raise from here on out will go a long way towards making that job a little easier, safer (for the bones), and will be an investment in the Bighorn Basin Dinosaur Project's expeditions - this year, and in years to come. Let me explain:
- Extra funds will allow us to purchase additional supplies. Field work is incredibly unpredictable, and it is simply impossible to know how many bags of plaster, burlap, tools, water containers, rolls of foil, etc., etc., etc., that we'll need. Paleontologists are always extremely frugal in the field - anything not used this summer will be used in seasons to come.
- Extra funds also will allow us to purchase much needed equipment for our field expeditions. Such equipment - even items as simple as frame backpacks for hauling heavy fossil jackets and supplies long distances over that rugged terrain (which will CERTAINLY be the case this summer) - would be an enormously helpful investment in our field program. Other items on our wish list would drastically improve the many educational components of our field expeditions.
So, once again, thank you all so much. Whether you donated funds or shared the news about our campaign, this success is all thanks to you. But there's no reason to stop now. Please continue to share the news about our campaign and about the Bighorn Basin Dinosaur Project. Let's see how far we can go with this - the sky is the limit!
