Mama Noots - Bocawina Ecolodge

Park headquarters.

Grilled Chicken, Coconut Rice, Veggies, and Pickled Cucumber and Starfruit Salad...I'm salivating as I write this...and yes, it was as good as it looks.

Artibeus literatus - Uroderma bilobatum Glossophaga soricinaPlatyrhinus helleri

Artibeus literatus

Fig left by the A. literatus in the net. This is a wild fig. Note the two canine tooth punctures in the fruit.

The lantern black light that we put into a small forest clearing. It sure did bring in scarabs and we did get a few wood-boring beetles too.

Justin shows off a couple of the big finds at the lantern. A large cerambycid wood boring beetle and a really neat silk moth.

Death's head roach. Yeah...they fly too....

This is a robber fly - this one had many of the usual markings associated with wasps.

Here are some pictures of the various insect pursuits undertaken by Krystal and Dan...

I just loudly groaned at the picture of the robber fly here in Experiment HQ. Other than that, really awesome photos!

About This Project

This project intends to create a major entomology collection housed in Belize and to conduct bat inventories while in Belize. The Maya Mountains of Belize are a biological hotspot located in one of the fastest growing regions of our planet (Central America). Yet, even with this growth, Belize has chosen to protect over one-quarter of their country as parks and preserves! Biological inventories help to better understand these protected areas.
Blast off!
