Genome Sponsorship

28 genomes have now been sponsored via the Genetic Rescue Foundation's store. A huge thank you to all those who have helped out there. We still have 97 individuals remaining, so if you're looking for a unique gift this Christmas please consider kākāpō genome sponsorship. Each genome sponsored comes with a DNA portrait compiled from the genetic information of the individual you're sponsoring!

Future

Once this batch is sequenced we will have processed 80 individuals. It's looking positive that the remaining ~44 will be sequenced in early 2017. The genetic dataset being created as a result of this project will be one of the most comprehensive ever produced for a species. This work would not be possible without the generosity of everyone who has backed and supported the effort to date. Once again on behalf of the project team thank you!

All the best

David

About This Project

The goal of this project is to sequence the genome's of all 125 known living kākāpō. Please help us to save one of the world's most unique and endangered species by allowing us to obtain the detailed genetic information necessary to minimize the loss of genetic diversity, and optimise health and productivity in the existing population.

Blast off!
