Male Nestling ready to go back to the nest after having his PPT backpack fitted

Nestling waiting for transport back to his nest.

As I have said before, data analysis is quite boring so, I thought I would share some news about one of the fledglings that was fitted with a PPT backpack in order to monitor his movements once he left the nest. These photos were taken almost five years ago during my prey dynamics fieldwork and I'm happy to report that just this week I heard this young male Golden Eagle is still alive and doing quite well. He is nearly old enough to find his first mate and start his own family!

His nest site is just one of many that is included in my data analysis. Your contributions will help ensure that we have the knowledge to provide and needed by agencies in order to protect these wonderful birds. They certainly deserve it!

About This Project

This is part of a larger project that answers the question of why Golden Eagles choose their nest sites in Arizona. Currently, there are no documented studies quantifying Golden Eagle nest site selection in Arizona. This multiscale analysis is essential for understanding the natural history of Golden Eagles in a desert ecosystem. The results from this study will be the foundation of knowledge in which to build on in the future.
