End of winter update

You may be wondering what we are doing with the 300+ samples that Maria collected in Utah earlier this winter. Our plan is to do the measurements this spring, and we estimate that it will take at least couple of months to measure all of the samples. Why the delay in starting the measurements? Maria is currently in Hobart, Australia presenting her results from a prior field campaign at the International Symposium for Sea Ice in a Changing Environment. In the fall of 2012, Maria spent 2 months on a ship cruise in the southern ocean studying sea ice. Below is a picture that Maria took during that cruise.

After the meeting, Maria will take some well-deserved vacation time down under. We will be sending photos of our lab work once she returns to Seattle and we get started!

About This Project

Regions of natural gas fracking in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado often experience high concentrations of ground-level ozone, which has severe impacts on respiratory health. But where does this ozone come from? Our project will try to answer this question in Utah's Uintah Basin. Understanding the causes of high ozone levels is essential for regulators to design effective strategies to improve local air quality.
